The Foundation supports projects that raise awareness of biodiesel performance, economic benefits, and sustainability. Currently, the Foundation has been awarded three grants for the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) Clean Diesel Program. EPA offers funding for projects that reduce diesel emissions from existing engines.

 

Summary of 2020 Iowa DOT NBF Grant

Project period: 10/1/2020- 9/30/2023

Diesel Emissions Reduction Act of 2010 (statutory authority)

The project will fund the purchase of two (2) new replacement multi-purpose Class 8 utility vehicles, equipped with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology that will operate on B100 (100% biodiesel). Both vehicles will have EPA approved engines and chassis. Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) is NBF’s project partner and recipient. The project will offer a technical training for Iowa DOT technicians and managers on operation and maintenance of the Optimus B100 Vector Technology as well as other outreach events to promote the project and B100. Summary of DC Dept. of Public Works Grant- Diesel Emission Reduction (DERA) National Grant

Project period: 10/1/2020- 9/30/2023

Diesel Emissions Reduction Act of 2010 (statutory authority)

The project will fund the purchase of 24 short haul utility (Class 6-8) new replacement vehicles, equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) that will operate on B100 (100% biodiesel). All vehicles will have EPA-approved engines and chassis. The project’s subrecipients are the District’s Department of Public Works (DPW) and DC Water. DPW’s fleet is a municipal utility sector and will receive funding for 15 Class 8 refuse haulers. Similarly, DC Water’s fleet will receive funding for nine Class 6-8 vehicles. The vehicle types are varied and include: dump, heavy utility, basin, jet vac, bucket, hydrant, and inspection trucks). The project will include:

  • A technical training for DPW and DC Water technicians and managers on operation and maintenance of the Optimus B100 Vector Technology;
  • A public outreach event regarding the project and the B100 vehicles;
  • Promotional efforts by partners regarding the project and its outcomes on websites and social media feeds, through other media outlets, and at strategic meetings; and
  • Community engagement specifically highlighting environmental justice and air quality benefits of this project.
